How do I paint a foyer two tone?
We have a split level home - We are painting the room as you walk up the stairs to the right two tone (slate blue on top, chair rail then lighter blue on bottom) we are carrying this color and chair rail down the hallway. How would we paint the foyer? It's all open and I know we can't paint it two tone with the chair rail. Should we paint it the lighter color of the blue?
First of all, you should keep your darker color to the bottom. Most interior decorators suggest this to everyone.
You could do a strip in the foyer. Tape it off, paint the strip one color, let it dry, then re-tape the sides you just painted, and then apply the other color. Or you could paint the side walls the light blue, and paint the door wall the darker blue. Or you could paint it a white or off-white and add a blue picture, or pictures with blue matting inside. You did not say what the carpeting looks like - if you do not have any yet, add a stair carpet in different blues or a foyer area rug. Best of luck in your decision.
