When the idea of a personal transportation was first conceived, inventors are looking to what is familiar rather than trying to create something new, even in start. To the beginning of personal transportation time, the latter 19th century, the primary means of powering vehicles - such as railway trains - is by steam. This is the way that the cause of the car to navigate, and quite astonishingly, worked.
Steam cars are powered by an external combustion engine, ie say the fuel is combusted away from the engine. The modern car is an internal search engine combustion, around twice as great as the version steam. Than last, steam cars are more popular than the modern world remembers, so they must be doing something right. In 1902, steam cars outnumbered all other types of vehicles, like us 485 of 909 new vehicle registrations for the force-powered cars. The main reason for this is that non-steam cars required hand-outs, a dangerous activity which can break wrists if done incorrectly. By creating electric starter, the glorious time of the strength of car as personal, civil, transportation is not more than 30 years since it was started.
Yet with oil at a premium, modern mind returning thinking of steam powered vehicles for personal transportation. Steam engines powered cars by burning fuel that heated water in a kettle. Is created steam, pistons that pushed a crank shaft which then turn the wheel. The method is relatively simple compared to some modern car engine, but it is his problem. The sheer weight and space required to keep the engine almost immediately made it useless for a small, family car. Yet it is several hundred years ago - the new Millennium can provide solutions to what should be a simple problem?
The answer, quite simply, no. While modern engineering can get around many problems that were previously considered no solution, it does not violate mathematical truth. To create the necessary amount of steam to power a vehicle for the duration of any kind in any kind of speed, you need a large external combustion engine. It alone - new passenger, chair, design and control is even considered - making any vehicle that can sit in excessive heavy, which in turn makes the engine has to work harder. This is a classic catch-22.
There is also the issue of start-up time, the manpower strength of a car is something of a problem. The machine can take some time to generate steam to power the engine, to the modern world only by doing a key and pushing a button and making the immediate power is somewhat tedious in the extreme.
So while the steam car is better for the environment because of their lack of emissions, the idea of generally not return. Concentration is in hybrid and electric cars, the problems seem to be solvable quickly than their steam counterparts and more acceptable general market. Yet steam power still live and will work, meaning no one can say its role in history is never quite up.
