Daughter is allergic to mold, were considering moving, but what state has the lowest mold count year round?
I developed allergies years ago and doctor recommended that I move to Arizona. However, after moving to Arizona, I developed new allergies to the pollens of local trees and vegetation!
People can develop allergies at any age, including new allergies. I suggest you obtain allergy treatments, instead of allowing an allergic condition to dictate where you should live. Allergy shots definately helped me tremendously.
I no longer live in Arizona, but one should be aware that since people in Arizona have brought in so many plants foreign to the region, it has increased the pollen counts etc. and made it not so great of a haven for the allergy-stricken.
Suggest you invest in a room-size HEPA air purifier and also have types that plug into electrical sockets in rooms to purify the home. Ensure you have working exhaust vents in your bathroom/s and kitchen to remove excess moisture from the air.
I purchased DampRid bags from WalMart when I lived in Louisiana and you can hang these in closets or all over the house. They absorb excess moisture tremendously and reduce mildew and mold. I highly recommend your investing in these.
Good housekeeping is important and there are many things you can do to prevent mildew in the home, such as wiping down the inside of the shower curtain after showers and wiping the mirror, shower stall, etc. Air circulation in the home i.e. ceiling fans is important.
Avoid cluttering items beneath sinks and other places where moisture collects. Indoor plants can create mold problems as you're watering the soil frequently. I would definately find out if your home has a toxic mold problem, as this is usually an indoor problem moreso than an outdoor problem.
I would get rid of carpets and drapes and replace with plain floors and blinds that you could clean more easily as these things collect molds and dust and are big problems for allergy sufferers. Change bedsheets frequently. Buy special HEPA filters for your vaccuum cleaner if you can't give up your rugs.
p.s. get knowledgeable about foods that have molds associated with them, i.e. cheese, etc. and have your daughter avoid them as they could be triggers of her mold allergies. Additionally, ensure she is not allergic to mold-based medicines like Penicillin.
