Can a shoe repair place make me a pair of shoes?
Wondering if possible any old school shoe store to repair NY can make a custom pair of shoes / boots
not very likely in most areas as a large closet and likely to have equipment for making shoes. The closest thing that can be if you brought in a pair you like but there are some key things have changed, as different the heel, different colors of stitching or add / change / remove the straps or hardware. time that shoes are custom made. It was quite an ordeal. First the shoemaker had to go get me a shoe form. It is basically a plastic foot which is the toe shape I am looking for (can I choose between hundreds of square-shaped, pointy, round and anything in between). After the heel height is determined as well as taking into account the exact length and width of my feet. Information is punched in a kepyad a machine and this machine carved my two feet out of plastic forms. After cobbler got the forms back to her shop where we chose the materials, hardware, heel and the leather only. Then go to the cobbler to lay strips of masking tape over the form of shoes. He asked me how low I want shoes that cut in front, if high up on the sides, etc. Where would I put the strap back-so he drew the line and cut it away with a scalpel. It gave him the pattern for my shoes upper.Then he applied to the material covered shoes and the heel of the same. As you can see it is a very involved process. Plus some custom shoemakers actually go in more detail than this-they map your entire foot for all of lumps, bumps and contours so your fit is very unique. It can cost thousands. My custom shoes are not that much, but it has made a friend family as a favor to me.
