What are these things on my rose stems?
Hi there, this is simply a curiosity thing and does not seem to be causing a problem. While in my rose garden I noticed a grasshopper sitting on a rose stem. Underneath it was a neat row of flat disc shaped things. They were green and I thought they were eggs. But after researching grasshoppers, it doesn't seem to be that. I'm very curious to know what they were. I wish I took a picture, because I ended up trimming that stem off and discarding it. (Because the flower was dead) Any ideas??????
Maybe they were two different things!
The flat disks could be an insect known as SCALE.
It lives in a shell covering and does not move, it attaches its mouthpiece to the plant,eats,gets pregnant,the shell hides the babies,and the mother slowly shrivels and dies leaving room for the babies to grow.
The grasshopper lays its eggs in the ground,or under leaf litter,buried not in the open.
