Textile weaving is, in architecture, among the oldest of art, and dates from the earliest periods of history. It is understood in Egypt, and records are located shown that it is practiced in a remote time in the Far East. The Chinese built the looms and wove silk brocades such beauty that they are cherished museum pieces and used for inspiration today.
For a long time the secret of the origin of silk fiber is gingerly. Silk cocoons later smuggled to the Philippines the headdress of a Chinese prince, and from there to Byzantium. Philippines learned from weaving silk weavers of China experts. The Greeks and the people who study the Near East also developed fabric production.
Monuments of Assyrian and Persian sculpture and Greek vases show the court fabric draperies. Vases of the sixth century BC found the striped pattern with the wing design and horse chariots. Since then all races have learned the art, and it followed the course of civilization from East to Europe and America. Influence is especially noted in the stone fireplace design (title = "http://www.ferche.com/" target = "_blank"> href = "http://www.ferche.com/"> http://www.ferche.com/).
The products of silk worms and the cocoon is well known in Rome, and silk cloth is first made in Europe about the sixth century AD, although until about 1000 years it was mainly still a product of the East. Iran, Syria and Egypt are the great weaving countries during the Middle Ages.
Following the crusades, eastern workmen were brought to France and Italy. Palermo in Sicily was the largest silk manufacturing city in the world, for conquests in Greece and the Greek introduction of silk weavers in Sicily brought capital to teach their art. The king is managed workshops by Greek weavers.
After 1300 we do not hear as much of the Sicilian Silks for flourishing weaving industry above Italy. Certainly not less known is Granada and Sevilla in Spain. The export of Spanish Silks began as early as the ninth century.
The beginning of the twelfth century, Malaga and Sevilla also been weaving centers. Silks Spanish held their own until the rebirth and the next hundred years or so weaving was introduced in Flanders, Germany, Holland and Great Britain. In the thirteenth century Italian weaving industry is fully developed.
The competitors east of Italy are being weakened by invaders. The beginning of the fourteenth century, velvets were widely made in Genoa. At the same time the Silks of Damascus is famous, and gave their name to the modern term "damask."
In the middle of the fifteenth century, looms were established in the city of Lyons, France, and has remained to this day one of the largest producers of textiles in the world. The industry in France made slow progress against the competition and the Italian tapestry weaving but it was not until the kingdom of the Louis XIV of France defeated weavers in Italy. This is analogous to the French design fireplace accessories (title = "http://www.ferche.com/" target = "_blank"> http://www.ferche.com/) that portrayed the complex tapestry design.
Simple and plain velvet fabric is known in Italy long before the year 1400. According to Italian records of 1500 income, cloths of silk, satin damasks and velvets, plain and cut, was made in a manner unknown to the Ancients. In 1539 the famous gobelin tapestry factory was established by France Francis the First. In 1690 the Beauvais tapestry works were established.
By 1750 thousands of looms are working in England with silk was brought from China and India. The seventeenth century, a great number of weavers left Protestants exiled in France after the revocation of the direction of Nantes. England, Holland and Switzerland profited by this event. In the early nineteenth century the Austrians became great manufacturers and labor imported from Lyons and Genoa.
China is preeminently The silk-producing countries, the great Egyptian nation for linens, cottons for India, and Flanders for wool. In recent years England will be replaced as Flanders a manufacturer of raw wool, and the United States was making cotton country of the world.
