how to file a hoof..?
I would like to know how to rasp a horses hoof, I have 3 miniature horses and would like to save some money. I know w/ the minis my farriers only file the hoof down and I think to myself you know i'm paying like $40 for this and I could probably do this by myself for free and i'm only 14! So does anyone know a good website or if this would be safe to do let me know! Thnx!
firstly clean the inside of the foot the frog etc you can cut away the rubbish that grows around the frog just dont cut to close as for the hoof simply a good rasp and work from the outside around you can cut a bit away before you start rasping but just dont get carried away when filing simply follow the shape of the hoof you can also buy an thing that looks like a compass to give an angle but if only mini horses its more about not letting them become founded ie too much hoof the cutters and a good rasp will cost but you will get it back and learning will be a great benefit to you just remember if you draw blod any where treat it quickly and you have gone to far
