How do I keep the worn / chipped paint on my old furniture was old?
I bought a pantry early 1900 that will the wonderful original crackled paint is peeling off. I want to keep the paint with but keep the old shabby appearance. I do not want it to look shiny or new. Any suggestions?
hello, i am a painter. without seeing your new pantry, I can not judge the severity of the peeling paint. If it is not peeling much at all (maybe one or two spots) you could probably get away with putting a few coats of (low-luster) polyurethane on it. If the skin is moderate or severe it will be removed first .. otherwise you put anything on top of it, is just to peel paint. then you can use one of several faux finishing techniques to duplicate your desired finish. I really suggest taking some pictures of your pieces of furniture and bring them to your local paint store ... NOT Home Depot or Lowes. a store deticated paint that they have the best information for you. any way you (unless You hire someone to do it for you) I suggest Practicing with other things first; to perfect your desired finish. good luck! and enjoy your new pantry. lj
