Would a rat and cat farm work? Sell the cat pelts and feed them rats and the rats breed on the scraps?
I want a micro-farm. I think this one might be the answer. It's self contained.
Would it work if I fenced in my barn and had a level for cats and a bottom level for the rats?
You might want to raise mice for the cats instead of rats. A good size rat can take care of itself. Just look a Karl Rove. Have you studied the cat pelt industry? Do you know if calico fur is more valuable than Siamese or other varities of felines. Do the research first. There might also be a market for fur balls. You will have a ton of those. It could be a novelty product: My pet furball. It could catch on like My Pet Rock.
