Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: Oi) officially opened a new plant mold in Tianjin, China, to supply molds Oi plants worldwide. Located approximately 120 kilometers southeast of the Chinese capital of Beijing, Tianjin Oi mold Co. Ltd. is one of the largest glass mold manufacturing sites in Asia, employing nearly 300 people. The plants are a joint venture between Oi and partner Yi Qing. Oi is a second mold facility in Manaus, Brazil. The new factory has more than 35,000 square meters and produces round shape and molds and blanks, as well as the complete equipment. Each mold can be shaped more than two million containers. "China is an important and growing market for oi. We all plan our growing presence in China, and we envision China as one of the pillars of our business going forward, "said Oi Chairman and CEO Al Stroucken. "I am convinced that maintaining our position as the leading supplier of glass containers in the world depends on achieving this position the Chinese market as well. "Asia Pacific Region President Greg Ridder said plant is important in mold making materials Oi more cost efficient and speed." We have invested in a state of the art facility in Tianjin to deliver operational excellence, "said Ridder."
