What size matting and frame on an 8x10 Portrait Photo?
What should the matting margins be? How big of a frame should i get?
As a finished piece of artwork - matting and a frame are a part of it. It really depends of how you see it as an artist. Best thing is to take your portrait to a store and try different combos. It is not just size, it's also color, texture, and everything about both frame and matting that makes the whole impression...
Normally, you either use 8x10 frame with no matting or 11x14 frame with respective matting. I would not use too massive a frame for portrait, and I'd try to match the frame color to the mood of a portrait, which could be really anything about it. Maybe subjects eye color, or dress color, or background color. But then of course there are exceptions. It is really impossible to suggest a specific combination without looking at the portrait. But even then - you may see it different than I do....
It's all in the eyes of a beholder...
