I live in a small home, with little space. I started hanging memorable items on the tree instead of plain bulbs from the big box store. *
Items from trips, small items that can be placed on the tree can be gathered up while packing your Christmas items and used as tree decorations. That way you haven't lost the item that you have considered to be replaced but didn't know just what to do. * Flat items: Put magnets on the back and put on your steel door (inside where it's warm) and decorate for the holidays. *
Honor a family member who has passed on: Make a memory box. List your most fond memory of that person and purchase or use their small 1" item. Cluster them on the hook or buy an acrylic ornament that opens up and arrange the item(s). * Photos, heavy items: Place them against the tree center on top of a branch. Create an opening to view inside. *

sounds to me like you have a really good start..i'd like to see martha stewart do as well without 8000 square feet to work with .... try gifting your favourite tree hanging items to your grown children or grandchildren, or nieces & nephews.. we rent a hall , the family is very large,,(my inlaws have between them 96 begats)..the beauty of a smaller home is the space is limited so you can't do too much anyway...
