I want to hang a punching bag from my basement ceiling. Need help.?
Hi, I want to hang a punching bag from the ceiling of my basement, but I do not know where to drill. As far as I know, my ceiling composed of two different rows. Bricks (relatively thin, hollow space them) and concrete (this is what I want to drill in, thick layer of concrete). Every place I try to drill through feels like a brick .. drill goes right past them in a second. I asked someone who works with these things, told me if I pound the ceiling of different places I should be hear if it is brick or concrete. I tried but to no avail. Anyone know what should I do? I would greatly appreciate it.
This is how it: assuming you receive a hollow space up there, between the ceiling and upstairs, and the use of hole you have made, drill and work by opening the ceiling of a tiny bit less than one foot in diameter. Cut three wooden 2x4s, two at least two feet in length, and one 12 inches long. Lay the 12 inch flat piece so that looking down at it to see four inches. Measures about an inch from each end of this piece and put two or three 3 1 / 2 inch screws in place on each end. Screw the screws in the middles of the two pieces of the feet, making a H. The 12 inch crossbar of H should be at the top of the other two, not between, because you'll need to support the cross beam from the floor. Fit H with hole in the ceiling and above the ceiling where you can not see it from the floor. Secure within the ceiling with one inch masonry nails around all sides hammered directly above the ceiling, against the wood, but not through the wood, or use anything that would keep the H from the movement. Beam is supporting your punching bag from within the ceiling, which is better than hanging the bag from underneath it. Use a 36 "long link chain made for towing and S hooks to secure the chain is wrapped around the 12 "2x4, and the top of the punching bag. To hide the holes, buy a round medallion at least 12" in diameter and remove the middle of it. Pull the chain down through the holes and mount the ceiling medallion to where you can see it. Then, attach punching bag. The height of bag can be changed by hook links in S. Questions for DIY Doc, I'd anchors mention you are strong enough to withstand always punching and grabbing onto the bag? Like the above suggestions will be better if he used iron bars instead of wood? We want this thing to pull the ceiling down or fall on the head of anyone ... lol
