Many Mexicans continue to revile the woman called Doña Marina by Spaniards and La Malinche of the Aztecs, labeling her a traitor and harlot for her role as the alter-ego of Cortes as he conquered Mexico. and what it got to do in 2012 if anything? It has a lot to do with remnants of the Mayans and their 12.21.2012 concepts.
When Cortez came to town, depending on which version you wan t to believe, the Mayans saw him as some sort of god and they granted him twenty virgins (as mythos goes). One of the twenty is named La Malinche. He is variously described as: slave, interpreter, secretary, wife, mother of the first "Mexican", and his very name still stirs up controversy.
Wonder why?
Some call him a traitor and the Mayans as a result, many of the writings were Apprehended and burned. Others see her a savior in which he saved the lives of tens of thousands of Mayans. He said that saved thousands of Indian lives by enabling Cortes to negotiate rather than slaughter. His ability to communicate also enabled the Spaniards and Christianity propose attempts to end human sacrifice and cannibalism.
La Malinche was a convert, baptized Marina, she was an eloquent advocate for his new faith.
Historians generally agree that she was the daughter of a noble Aztec family. The death of his father, a chief, his mother remarried and gave birth to a son. Decisions than was Marina, should rule, he turned his small daughter in over a few entrepreneurs and then expressed his dead. Eventually, he wound up as a slave of cacique (the military chief) of Tabasco. By the time Cortes arrived, he learned the Mayan dialects used in the Yucatán while understanding Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs and most Non-Mayan Indians.
We note that "La Malinche" is not chosen to join Cortes. He offered him as a slave of the cacique of Tabasco, along with 19 other girls. He has no voice in the matter so how about giving the woman a break?
Think the history has shown, the next 2-3 years he allowed the Mayans to keep the manuscripts that come about 12/21/2012 Statement and then we know ..... the rest of the story!
