How bad is water on leather seats?
I have leather seats in my car and I like to swim laps frequently. I usually try to put a towl under myself when I am wearing a wet swim suit, but how bad is the water for the leather seats? Also could it have any effect on the seat heating element?
Hi....the bottom line is do whatever u can to protect your leather. Basically, you need to treat the leather with care, occasionally applying a leather lubricant, and possibly some kind of protection. The better quality products you use, the better off down the road. Whether its a Rolls Royce, or a Nissan Maxima, the better care you take of the leather, the better it will last. And, it will help your resale value too. I am a car wholesaler......no matter how pretty a car looks on the outside, or how good a deal it may be, if the leather seats look bad, i wont buy it. I looked a a 2001 BMW convertible last week, clean, 100,000 miles, and perfect , $3500. Except for one thing, the leather seats were in poor condition. The car was white with a tan interior, and the leather was cracked badly. So, i didnt buy it. If i were you, i would consider a trashbag, then a towel, to sit on after swimming. As far as leather products go, i like "Connossiers Choice", by Liquid Glass, from NJ. You can find it on the net or at an upscale retailer. My second choice is "Lexor".... more easliy available. Both products offer a conditioner, and a protectant, but the Lexor stuff is more greasy. I owned an upscale detail shop about 10 years ago....all my customers got the "CC"......a Lincoln or a Cadillac has thick leather, but a Ferarri has very thin, and soft and supple leather. Condition your seats as often as possible, and protect them from the elements. Good Luck!!
