Calla lily?
I have a calla lily plant that I am growing it indoors. Recently all of the yellow blossoms died, and I was told this was normal due to the "dormant" period the plant is going through. However, now the leaves are beginning to turn yellow. What should I be doing to keep my plant alive? I water it regularly and it gets really good sun in the morning. It's normal June weather where I am but it has been raining a lot lately. I use the Miracle Gro plant sticks, I'm supposed to put in three and they are 6-12-6.
In reply to the first answer ... it is NOT winter out so is it normal for it to do this when it's NOT winter? If not, what do I do? Please help!
Your calla is done for the season. They grow from bulb or rizomes which put out leaves, flower, then die off. They do this year to year like tulips. The best thing to do is just put it somewhere cool and dark. It will die off and look kinda nasty. When all the leaves etc are dead, cut them off but leave the pot in the dark, cool area. Do not water as it won't needed it. In a little while ( could be a month could be 3 or 5 months) it will start to send up shoots. Pick it up and put it back into the sun and water it. Take care of it like you did before. Everyother year if you want you could take out some of the dirt when it had died off and replace it with new dirt. It may growback more then one time in a year. We have this happen with our ammarilys bulb. It pops out for a while then dies back, the grows again. It is just the nature of the plant.
